Mobile Management for BlackBerry - BYOD

Mobile Device Management buzz

QMX – Configuration Manager Mobile Edition is getting a lot of attention – particularly in regards to BYOD iPads, iPhones and Android devices. Seamless System Center Configuration Manager console and database integration enables SCCM users to manage those devices all under the same pane of glass as their Windows infrastructure and over 120 QMX cross-platforms extensions. Inventory via Resource Explorer, standard SCCM reporting – all done natively. You can layer on profiles and apps (app deployment not available on Android yet) and selectively wipe them off as needed. Wipe, lock and clear passcodes. You get all that good stuff without investing in more redundant infrastructure, training…etc.

But, what about BlackBerry & System Center?

BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) is a very mature product in terms of management and the QMX – Operations Manager (yes – System Center Operations Manager) extension generates alerts for your management system based on SNMP traps received from BES and it also collects performance metrics which monitor the health of BES at the system and user levels. It also has a WatchDog function which monitors whether BES is connected to the BlackBerry network and generates alerts on state changes.

Here is the amazing thing - it is priced per BES server. So, for $499, you can monitor not just your BES in SCOM, but all the user devices homed to it as well. Cool.
